What is it?

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. It lets you get out of your own way in processing the trauma.

Why EDMR?

EMDR is the gold standard for treating unprocessed and painful experiences from your past. In our sessions we’ll release traumatic memories and reintegrate them into long term memory, lowering anxiety and distress. We'll never push you out of what you can tolerate, stretching comfort levels but never breaking them. EMDR treats past experiences with precision and always at your pace.

Who does it help?

Help Your Mind Counseling uses EMDR to help those with:

* PTSD
* C-PTSD
* Anxiety
* Depression
* Dissociative Disorders
* Personality Disorders.

What to expect

EMDR therapy has 8 stages where we desensitize the problem in the past, the present, and the future
  1. History taking
  2. Preparation
  3. Assessment
  4. Desensitization with Bilateral Stimulation
  5. Instillation of the healthier beliefs
  6. Body Scan
  7. Closure
  8. Reevaluation

Hi, I'm Marissa.

Having a mother with Borderline Personality Disorder I’ve had to move through my own trials and heal many of my own wounds.  I’ve learned how to hold my own pain and find joy after the pain.  I am now here to stay with you in your pain and discomfort until you’re through the other side.

My own journey through PTSD was like walking with a bucket of ice-water on my head.  Known and unknown triggers would come along knocking me off balance and splashing icy cold pain, anger, and hurt over me and anyone around me.   Through my own work, my education and my training, I’ve learned how to heal my inner children, find playfulness and trust, and be kinder to myself.  Now I am excited to teach these gifts to you.

Using treatments such as EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Counseling I can help you:
·      Feel more connected to friends and partners
·      Feel secure in relationships
·      Feel confident in your own choices
·      Feel a sense of power over your own destiny

Along my own healing journey I’ve learned to use humor and playful sarcasm, along with a no-nonsense approach to help make the pain more bearable.  I’ve helped both individuals and couples with C-PTSD move through their struggles and find compassion and grace for their own experiences.  I’ve helped them find joy and reclaim their own story.
